Addition to Xmas list

The other night I watched Apres Vous with the fabulous Daniel Auteuil, one of my favourite French actors. The film was delightful – quirky, French, very funny in a light way, most enjoyable. It was a romance, and just when the boy started to get the girl the soundtrack featured Sur le bout [...]

NHS woes

My British readers may be interested in this article:
Ten facts the Government would prefer you not to know
I found it via the fascinating NHS Blog Doctor whose stories about the NHS fill me with trepidation about ever having to go back to Blighty, and about what the future holds for NZ’s health service, particularly while [...]

John Key fallen at first hurdle

It didn't take long for his (or his speechwriter's) grammatical ineptitude to show. From his speech today, as reported by David Farrar:
As I grew up, though, I recognised that what my mother gave to my sisters and I was far more valuable than money.
Even “me and my sisters” would be better. I [...]

Busy week

There seems to be a lot of activity in the air.
National have a new leader and new deputy. They seem pretty buoyant. I want to know what Gerry Brownlee was offered to stand aside. People around me seem to think National now have a fighting chance of winning the next election, there’s [...]

Moving on

I have received some wonderful on- and off-line expressions of sympathy and support about the failed IUI cycle, and I do not have the words to express how thankful I am that friends, family and anonymous persons are all out there thinking good thoughts for us.
I shouldn’t refer to it as a “failed” cycle because [...]

IUI didn't work :(

Now that I’ve been able to let some key people know off-blog, I can report here – the IUI didn’t work. My beta HCG was less than 1.2, so I didn’t even get a chemical.
I haven’t heard from the doc yet, I don’t know if he’ll want to discuss the cycle with me. [...]

Today's update

A nice temperature rise today, but a negative pregnancy test. There’s still a chance that we succeeded but it’s looking less and less likely. We’ll find out for sure tomorrow

Not so good today

I’m very tired. Haven’t had enough energy to make breakfast.
My lower abdomen feels distinctly odd. Heavy, full of stuff, and like it’s trying to cramp but can’t for some reason.
I feel sick – another demotivator on the breakfast thing. If I was actually being sick I’d be quite happy and imagining all [...]

Nearing the end of the cycle

We’re in the endzone now – and my temperature went up
My chart is now looking as good or better than my April 2005 cycle (when I was last officially pregnant)
As we know it means nothing – I’m taking progesterone artificially, so **of course** my temperature will still be up. It might not [...]

Quelle coinkydinky

I've just discovered that November 25 (testing day) is the feast of St Catherine of Alexandria, she of the Catherine Wheel and by default my patron saint, being the most famous St Catherine – I wasn't actually named specifically after a saint.
St Catherine of Alexandria was so unbelievably brainy the Church even now has trouble [...]

OK, as family will know, it’s That Time Of Year.
When your immediate family are liberally sprinkled over three continents, and add to that the problem of Podna and I having a birthday at the same time, there is only one way to get through Christmas, and that’s with a List.
I have a tag here of [...]

Private Eye magazine in the UK has a great column where readers spot shameless plugs for Murdoch-owned products or enterprises dressed up as “news” in The Sun or other organs. This column isn’t in the online edition, sadly, you have to buy the paper one to see it. It can be very funny [...]

Let the obsession begin :)

I can’t help but feel excited I have an excellent chart. Now this is nothing to be excited about because I’m being managed scientifically with d-r-u-g-s and, guess what, they’re working, so of course I have nice high temperatures with a beautiful dip right in the right place. It doesn’t [...]
